About the Speaker
David Benjamin Sherry (b. 1981) is an artist whose work reimagines the tradition of the American Western landscape through photography and painting. Using vivid, often monochromatic color, Sherry explores the relationship between identity and the natural world, challenging romanticized narratives of the West while bringing queer perspectives to histories of land, belonging, and representation.
Sherry’s work is featured in “Deconstructing Landscape,” currently on view at Thoma Collection through Spring 2027. Co-curated by Kathleen Forde and Meagan Robson, the exhibition brings together more than 35 works from the Carl & Marilynn Thoma Foundation collection that reconsider the landscape through technology, memory, environmental awareness, and perception.
