SUMMARY:Zane Bennett Contemporary Art - Fritz Scholder: The Raw Immediacy and Chromatic Vibrations of Fritz Scholder’s Prints
DESCRIPTION:Fritz Scholder: The Raw Immediacy and Chromatic Vibrations of Fritz Scholder’s Prints is a survey of the groundbreaking print practice of Fritz Scholder (Luiseño Tribe)\, whose bold color\, expressive mark-making\, and modernist vision transformed the representation of Indigenous people in twentieth-century American art. Featuring significant lithographs produced during his long collaboration with Tamarind Institute\, the exhibition explores Scholder’s deconstruction of enduring American Indian stereotypes alongside works that reflect his interest in color\, mortality\, magic\, and the expressive possibilities of printmaking. More than five decades after many of these prints were published\, Scholder’s works continue to inform conversations about Indigenous identity\, modern art\, the American experience\, and their intersection.\nDate/Time: On view: 7.31.26–9.5.26 | Opening reception: 7.31.26\, 5–7 p.m.

Guadalupe Street\nSanta Fe\, NM 87501\n\nRSVP HERE\nAdmission: Free and open to the public.\n\nAbout the Speaker\n \nDavid Benjamin Sherry (b. 1981) is an artist whose work reimagines the tradition of the American Western landscape through photography and painting. Using vivid\, often monochromatic color\, Sherry explores the relationship between identity and the natural world\, challenging romanticized narratives of the West while bringing queer perspectives to histories of land\, belonging\, and representation.\n\nSherry’s work is featured in “Deconstructing Landscape\,” currently on view at Thoma Collection through Spring 2027. Co-curated by Kathleen Forde and Meagan Robson\, the exhibition brings together more than 35 works from the Carl & Marilynn Thoma Foundation collection that reconsider the landscape through technology\, memory\, environmental awareness\, and perception.

SUMMARY:Zane Bennett Contemporary Art - Structures That Shape Us: Roberto Cardinale
DESCRIPTION:Structures That Shape Us brings together eleven meticulously researched sculptures inspired by churches across the American Southwest\, the East Coast\, and Europe\, alongside working drawings by artist and former Benedictine monk Roberto Cardinale.\n\nDrawing inspiration from the Spanish architecture of the American Southwest\, Cardinale considers how regional culture\, imperial power\, Indigenous building traditions\, and European building practices converge to create the complex history that defines our current built environment. His sculptures invite us to consider buildings not only as monuments but also living records of belief\, cultural exchange\, and conflict.\n\nRooted in both artistic practice and spiritual inquiry\, Cardinale’s work reflects on the human impulse to connect with something larger than ourselves. Structures That Shape Us asks how the places we inherit shape our collective memory\, our sense of identity\, and the stories we tell.\nFree

SUMMARY:Zane Bennett Contemporary Art - Powerhouse: The Engaged Regionalism of Judith Chafee’s Architecture
DESCRIPTION:Powerhouse celebrates the visionary work of Judith Chafee (1932–1998)\, a pioneering Southwest architect whose practice synthesized architecture\, art\, landscape\, and ecological stewardship. The exhibition features Framing the Desert\, curated by Christopher Domin and Kathryn McGuire for the University of Arizona\, with architectural photography by Bill Timmerman\, graphic panels tracing Chafee’s career\, and scale models of three of her projects: the Blackwell Residence\, Ramada House\, and Viewpoint. Together\, these works illustrate Chafee’s ethos of regionalism defined by her sensitivity to climate\, topography\, materials\, and culture. Her work challenged architectural conventions in the Southwest\, creating a potential methodology for constructing the region’s future built environment. Through programming developed by Glenn Erikson\, architect and Chafee’s mentee\, Powerhouse invites viewers to consider the future of architecture in a region facing profound environmental change. \nFree

SUMMARY:Zane Bennett Contemporary Art - Capitol Collective: Jorge Otero-Pailos
DESCRIPTION:Opening during Constitution Week\, artist\, architect\, and experimental preservationist Jorge Otero-Pailos’s Capitol Collective reimagines the architectural plan as a painterly and generative medium. The exhibition brings together works based on the United States Capitol\, the artist’s various residences\, and the former U.S. Embassy in Oslo to explore the dynamic between architecture\, belonging\, collective memory\, and identity. Moving between the intimate scale of home and the civic scale of the Capitol and embassy\, Otero-Pailos reveals architectural plans as evolving records of lived experience\, power\, memory\, and possibility. Extending his pioneering practice of experimental preservation into painting\, Capitol Collective considers how the spaces we inhabit and the histories we choose to preserve are continually transformed by those who occupy\, remember\, and reimagine them. \nFree

SUMMARY:Blue Rain Gallery - Eric Romero’s “Querencia” (opening)
DESCRIPTION:Eric Romero’s new exhibit Querencia celebrates the people\, traditions\, and cultural touchstones that create a sense of home and belonging. Drawing from his Hispanic roots and his lived experience in New Mexico\, Romero weaves together family\, faith\, car culture\, mythology\, and regional iconography through vibrant color\, humor\, and deeply personal storytelling. At the heart of this new body of work is family\, particularly the generations of women who nurture\, preserve\, and carry culture forward. Through portraits of those closest to him and familiar symbols of New Mexico life\, Romero reflects on heritage as something both inherited and continually reimagined. Querencia is ultimately a celebration of authenticity\, cultural pride\, and the enduring connections that allow us to feel most at home in ourselves.\n\n\nOpening Reception: Friday\, September 25th\, 2026 5-7pm\n\nFree
