SUMMARY:Charlotte Jackson Fine Art - Pard Morrison: Everlove
DESCRIPTION:The language of Pard Morrison’s painted sculptures\, whether the columns\, cubes\, or the stacked box wall piece included in this exhibition\, is a complex interplay of minimal elements. There is the architectural nature of these 3/16″ plate aluminum pieces\, precisely cut and welded into geometric volumes. There is the juxtaposition of this industrial fabrication with the fact that\, as the viewer notices on close inspection – the myriad colors of industrial Flouronar paint across the surface have been applied by hand. The marks of Morrison’s brushwork remain visible\, belying that veneer of industrial “perfection” that they may seem to have from a distance. The colors themselves are painted across the surfaces as if the sculpture was a canvas in elaborate patterns of shapes and bands and puzzle pieces. \nEach of these aspects of the work can be taken in turn\, but the magic truly happens when the viewer begins to take in the relationships between all these disparate aspects\, to see the whole. Everlove offers the viewer a chance to slow down. To see differently. To begin to learn a language made of color and shape\, of space and light. To feel the significance of the human hand amid a world of tech and noise. As Morrison says: “I believe that mark making is a form of prayer. My work is an accumulation of prayers.” \nJuly 3 – August 1\, 2026 \nOpening reception with the artist on Friday\, July 3 from 5-7 p.m. \n554 S. Guadalupe in the Railyard Art District.

SUMMARY:Charlotte Jackson Fine Art - Presents JEREMY THOMAS: Of Our Own Making
DESCRIPTION:An exhibition of new work by Jeremy Thomas will open at Charlotte Jackson Fine Art on August 7 and run through September 5\, 2026\, with an opening reception on Friday\, August 7\, from 5-7 p.m. at the gallery\, which is located at 554 S. Guadalupe in the Railyard Art District.\n \nThe challenge is there in the title: Of Our Own Making. The person who enters the gallery is entreated to become an active participant in the perception and understanding of the art objects found within. Life asks this of us every day – but it is art that so often provides the space\, the paring down\, the intensity of focus\, which allows us to notice internally where we are stuck\, where preconceived ideas interfere with perceptions. Art says: pay attention to your prejudices. Take responsibility for your vision. See with the artist. Bring your full self\, your personal history\, your emotion and knowledge\, with full awareness\, into the gallery with you. All that you are\, the world itself\, will shape your experience. \nBut these sculptures challenge us in more ways than one. Those familiar with the work of Jeremy Thomas will expect the folded and puckered forms of his inflated cold-rolled steel – but these forms are prickly. Spined\, bristled. Their weight balanced precariously on points\, and reaching outward and upward with thorny edges. The human brain is wired for a wariness of spikey things\, and so these new sharp forms challenge our bias – even as the sumptuousness of their glossy colors and allure of their velvety-textured rust patina\, seduce us to come near\, get closer. \nDeep\, brilliant\, and intense – the colors saturate the eye. Midnight blue. Iron-rich red. A green that shimmers with depths of blue and violet. A rich\, coagulated pink. The palette choices and saturation set the stage for an experience of color that is complex and shifting. An experience of color that pulls and leads the viewer to move around and explore the sculptures closely. \nBut those spikey forms! Whereas at first we might find a warning in the shapes – soon they begin to feel familiar. Reassuring. Thomas notes that this new exploration of spiny forms began in 2025\, and initially came from encountering the bright green\, pointed holly leaves in otherwise barren hedgerows on bleak January walks in Wales. Back in New Mexico in his studio\, as he explored and worked with these shapes\, he realized that “all the pokey things in the world are pokey for a reason…” Plants and creatures evolve spines and spikes\, sometimes for protection\, but also sometimes so that their seeds can stick to something and be disseminated far and wide. New life from a spikey beginning. \nThese remarkable new pieces are not the only new explorations that Thomas brings to Of Our Own Making. Also included are a series of small sculptural objects that were printed on a 3D printer from translucent polycarbonate material. These works represent a whole other avenue of exploration for Thomas\, utilizing a material that has long fascinated him\, and exploring the use of digital technology to create his forms. These forms are lobed and radiant. If the steel sculptures are spikey sea creatures or seed pods – these are nacreous shells or transparent invertebrates. Thomas hand paints the forms\, leaving many of the forms’ sides translucent and a few opaque. The effect is a luminous confusion of shape and color\, a silvery shimmer that seems to contain several stops along the color spectrum. It can be hard to pin down where a curve ends or an edge begins due to the particular quality of the material and how light interacts with pigment. \nThe challenge here\, from Thomas’ perspective\, is the use of new technologies. It is important\, he says\, to see digital technology as another useful tool in art-making\, but not to give it more weight than it warrants. As he says\, “It’s just another tool. It’s just another technique and realm to explore. I think in our digital age\, we forget the reason why we make. And how important our human experience is in that making process.” \nPerhaps this is the final challenge presented in Of Our Own Making. The culmination of these disparate new works is an understanding of Thomas’ own stance as an artist in the world; constantly engaging\, questioning and bringing those experiences\, those discoveries\, back into the studio where he interprets and integrates them. It is clear\, walking through the gallery\, that artmaking is how Thomas makes sense of the world. Whether it is the silken slide of light across one of his new 3D printed pieces\, or the way that his spiky forms “catch” you with their spines\, beneath it all\, Thomas demonstrates to us a way to be in the world. \nFor more information about this exhibition please contact 505-989-8688 or press@charlottejackson.com or visit our website: www.charlottejackson.com.

SUMMARY:Evoke Contemporary - SUMMER SALON | Group Exhibition featuring Rabbett Before Horses Strickland
DESCRIPTION:Evoke Contemporary carries forward the rich tradition of salons as catalysts for artistic dialogue\nand intellectual exchange\, fostering a dynamic space where creativity and conversation converge.\nShowcasing a diverse group of artists\, the gallery presents thought-provoking works that explore\nthemes of identity\, history\, and transformation\, challenging perspectives and inspiring deeper\nengagement with contemporary art.\nThis summer\, Evoke is pleased to introduce Rabbett Before Horses Strickland\, an Anishinaabe\nartist and an enrolled member of the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians\, with\nadditional ties to the Red Cliff and Bad River bands of Lake Superior Ojibwe. He grew up in the\nSan Francisco Bay Area\, surrounded by artists — his mother\, aunts\, and uncles were all painters.\nHe lives and works from his home in secluded woodlands on Lake Superior in northern\nWisconsin.\nThe nickname “Rabbett” emerged around 1963–64 as his sense of Native identity took shape\,\nand he later legally adopted it as his name. He became fascinated with the Ojibwe trickster figure\nNanabozhoo in his early 20s\, not long after joining Richard Oakes and other American Indians in\nthe 1969 occupation of Alcatraz Island in the San Francisco Bay.\nLargely self-taught\, Strickland is an autodidact with no formal art training. As a child he visited\nSan Francisco’s Palace of the Legion of Honor and copied works by Caravaggio and other\nmasters. His mature style draws heavily on the European Renaissance and Baroque traditions —\nBotticelli\, Michelangelo\, Titian\, Velázquez\, Rubens\, and Leonardo — fused with Ojibwe\nmythology. He has summarized his approach: “My movement came from Botticelli\, my color\nfrom Rubens\, and my form from Michelangelo.”\nOther artists in this year’s Summer Salon include Esha Chiocchio\, Francis DiFronzo\, Irene\nHardwicke Olivieri\, Nicholas Herrera\, Michael Scott and Thomas Vigil. \nOpening reception Friday\, July 31\, 5pm – 7pm\, on display through August 22\, 2026. \nToad Women Healing the Minidoos. SUMMARY:Zane Bennett Contemporary Art - Fritz Scholder: The Raw Immediacy and Chromatic Vibrations of Fritz Scholder’s Prints
DESCRIPTION:Fritz Scholder: The Raw Immediacy and Chromatic Vibrations of Fritz Scholder’s Prints is a survey of the groundbreaking print practice of Fritz Scholder (Luiseño Tribe)\, whose bold color\, expressive mark-making\, and modernist vision transformed the representation of Indigenous people in twentieth-century American art. Featuring significant lithographs produced during his long collaboration with Tamarind Institute\, the exhibition explores Scholder’s deconstruction of enduring American Indian stereotypes alongside works that reflect his interest in color\, mortality\, magic\, and the expressive possibilities of printmaking. More than five decades after many of these prints were published\, Scholder’s works continue to inform conversations about Indigenous identity\, modern art\, the American experience\, and their intersection.\nDate/Time: On view: 7.31.26–9.5.26 | Opening reception: 7.31.26\, 5–7 p.m.

SUMMARY:Pie Projects - Artist Talk With August Muth
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a talk with light artist\, August Muth this Saturday\, August 8\, as he discusses the ideas\, techniques\, and decades of experimentation behind his holographic works. Hosted in our Garden Gallery\, this standing-room-only event invites visitors to experience his practice through the artist’s own perspective and explore the intersection of light\, science\, and art. \nFor more than four decades\, August Muth has been at the forefront of contemporary holography\, developing highly specialized techniques that transform light itself into an artistic medium. Trained in astronomy and physics\, Muth creates works that exist as dynamic fields of light\, shifting in color\, depth\, and form as viewers move through space. \nEach hologram is meticulously crafted using hand-coated\, light-sensitive glass emulsions that are exposed to laser light\, resulting in luminous compositions that challenge conventional perceptions of space\, time\, and materiality. Rather than depicting an image\, Muth’s works make light perceptible as a physical presence\, resulting in immersive experiences that are never the same twice. Because every viewer encounters each hologram from a different vantage point\, every experience of the work is uniquely their own. \nA pioneer in the field\, Muth has spent more than 40 years exploring the intersection of art\, science\, and perception. Working from his Santa Fe studio\, he continues to push the boundaries of holography\, inviting us to reconsider the extraordinary possibilities contained within the everyday phenomenon of light.

SUMMARY:Blue Rain Gallery - Preston Singletary - The Good\, the bad and the Raven
DESCRIPTION:New Glass Sculpture \nStories Imagined by Preston Singletary and Garth Stein\nWritten by Garth Stein\n\nIn The Good\, the Bad and the Raven\, bestselling author Garth Stein and internationally acclaimed glass artist Preston Singletary continue their collaboration with a bold new cycle of stories and sculptures that reimagine Raven mythology for the modern age. Blending Indigenous storytelling traditions with speculative fiction\, satire\, and contemporary anxieties\, the exhibition follows Raven through a world of artificial intelligence\, social media obsession\, fractured truth\, environmental collapse\, and spiritual disconnection. Along the way\, Raven encounters living statues\, ghostly ancestors\, kushtaka internet tricksters\, and Eagle himself—part guide\, part foil\, part cosmic life coach.\n\nFunny\, unsettling\, irreverent\, and unexpectedly moving\, The Good\, the Bad and the Raven asks what happens when people surrender their stories\, their traditions\, and even their voices to the endless noise of the modern world. Pairing Singletary’s luminous glass works with Stein’s lyrical and sharply observant prose\, the exhibition becomes both a warning and a celebration: a reminder that stories are living things\, meant to evolve\, provoke\, and reconnect us to one another. And somewhere above it all\, Raven is still circling—laughing\, scheming\, and trying to save humanity from itself.\n\n-Garth Stein\n\nArtist Reception: Friday\, August 14th from 5 – 7pm
